Ahmed al-Sharaa started a visit to Berlin on March 30 for talks on the Middle East war, rebuilding his country and the return of refugees. The visit is the first to Germany for Syria's interim leader, with critics saying his human rights record is being ignored. It is also the newest attempt by al-Sharaa to kindle a relationship with Western countries, after years of isolation for Syria under dictator Bashar al-Assad.
