Lebanon’s health ministry says Israeli strikes on Wednesday killed 182 people – the deadliest single day since the start of the Israel–Hezbollah war. Israel launched a wave of strikes on central Beirut and other parts of the country, even as a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran came into effect. Iranian officials say the deal was meant to include Lebanon, but both Israel and Washington insist it does not. FRANCE 24’s Sharon Gaffney speaks to Sami Nader, Director of the Levant Institute for Strategic Affairs, who says Lebanon is facing “collective punishment” from Israel, with the strikes justified by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Lebanese authorities do not have full control over their territory.
