EU unveils long-promised plan to quit Russian gas by end-2027

The European Commission on Tuesday has drafted a roadmap on how it plans to phase out Russian by 2027, aiming to end Europe's dependence on Russian fossil fuels. The two-step plan will terminate new contracts and existing short-term deals by 2025, with a complete ban by 2027. This move is part of the EU's effort to reduce Russia's leverage over energy supplies, following the invasion of Ukraine.
